PRT have been actively involved in the Inspection, Detection and Repair of roof trusses and cut roofs since the fatal roof collapse at the Riverside Golf Club in 2003.
Since the collapse PRT Construction have been working closely with Adelaide’s leading Engineers including forensic Engineer Mr John Goldfinch (FMG Engineers) and Mr Peter Graham (Conceptio Pty Ltd)
THE IMPORTANCE OF EXPERIENCE
Since the collapse hundreds of trusses have been inspected and repaired by PRT Construction ( formally PRT Fabrication & Consulting ) establishing us as the most qualified repairers in Australia.
In 2003 PRT was commissioned to carry out random inspection of 140 units out of a total of 1300 owned by our client. The audit survey encompassed four states, 13 different sites, trusses from various fabricators and suppliers in all types of climates and built over a period of 15 years using both Hardwood and Softwood. As a result repairs were made in all states of Australia.
Roofs of all shapes and size varying from the smallest roof 50m2 to the largest 7500m2 continue to be repaired. As a result PRT continue to be the leader in roof structure repair and or replacement and the preferred contractor’s choice of leading engineers.

Over the past five years we have inspected and repaired hundreds of roof trusses and cut roofs throughout Australia.

As a result repairs were carries out in all states.
Peeling Truss Plates
When truss plate manufacturers test their plates to come up with design values, one of the tests they perform is for "Lateral Withdrawal Resistance". Lateral withdrawal resistance refers to the truss's ability to resist "plate peeling".
As a result of our investigations it has become more apparent that the problems of peeling truss plates are more widespread than earlier anticipated. From 1970 until the late 90’s a locally produced plated branded as Steelfast was used extensively.
The tooth design used in the manufacture of these plates has proven to be the poorest performing of all plates showing failure or extreme peeling after a a period of around 10 – 12 years. Early detection of this movement can allow effective remedial repairs to be carried out. However if not detected the trusses may fail causing roof collapse.
